OSHA Inspections
Practical considerations: a compliance officer’s perspective
Garrett Brown Cal/OSHA Compliance Officer
Ever been on the receiving end of a Cal/OSHA inspection? Ever wonder what is involved? Ever had a Cal/OSHA inspection and been caught unprepared or it did not go as expected? Garrett Brown is an experienced Cal/OSHA Compliance Officer. He has conducted over 350 inspections since 1993 including Central Valley agriculture and Los Angeles garment sweatshops. He has been involved with fatality investigations, temporary plant closures, and more than $1.4 million in civil penalties. Special assignments have included ergonomic studies, asbestos abatement inspections and bilingual (Spanish) investigations.
He will discuss his perspective as a compliance officer including a description of the inspection process, things employers should be doing to avoid or prepare for an inspection, and things employers should not do related to an inspection.
Attending three dinner meetings is normally worth 0.5 ABIH certificate maintenance points.
The Executive Committee will meet at the restaurant at 3:30 pm to conduct Local Section business. As always, interested parties are encouraged and welcome to attend.
