David Krack, CIH, CSP
President

The President shall preside at all meetings of the Local Section membership and of the Executive Committee and shall perform such other duties as may be directed by the Executive Committee. The President shall appoint committees that the Executive Committee deems necessary for the orderly function of the Local Section. The President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees and is a representative on the Local Sections Council of AIHA.

David has been a member of the NCS since 1982 when he relocated to the Bay Area from Southern California.  He recently volunteered his service to the NCS as a three year member of the board of directors and was responsible for the NCS symposium on the occupational health aspects of nanotechnology that was held in May 2008 at SRI International. Colleen Thornton, CIH
President-Elect

The President-Elect automatically shall succeed the President in office upon completion of the President's term of office. The President-Elect shall perform any duties delegated by the Executive Committee or assigned by the President. The President-Elect shall serve as an AIHA-NCS representative on the Local Sections Council of AIHA.

Colleen Thornton has been an active member of the national and local section since 2000.  She has chaired the IH-in-the-Community Committee from 2005-2008, been a member of the Developing World Outreach Committee during the first year that it was launched, and served as a Director on the Executive Committee from 2008-2011.  Colleen is currently working as an independent occupational health and safety consultant.  She is certified in Industrial Hygiene and is a graduate of the UC Berkeley MPH program with an emphasis on industrial hygiene.


Diana J. Harrington, MS, CIH
Past President

The Past President chairs the nominating committee, is a member of the website committee, provides oversight of the governmental affairs committee, and is responsible for updating the operations manual. 

Diana has been on the Board since 2006 and an active member of the local section since 2002. She was chair of the IH in the Community Committee from 2003 to 2006, served as a Director on the Executive Committee from 2006 to 2009 and President-Elect in 2009-2010. Diana is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and has a Masters of Science in Industrial Hygiene from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. David Hornung
Board Secretary

 

The Secretary is responsible for carrying out secretarial functions of AIHA-NCS such as record minutes of the Executive Committee meetings and business transactions that may come before AIHA-NCS and Executive Committee meetings. The Secretary also provides directory oversight and maintains the Executive Committee Organizational Chart and the historical records of Section.

 


Sheila McCarthy
Treasurer

The Treasurer shall receive, disburse and be custodian of all funds of AIHA-NCS. All disbursements shall be made upon authorization of the President. The Treasurer shall present a current financial report and provide the most recent reconciled bank statements at each regular meeting of the Executive Committee, and additionally as may be requested. The Treasurer shall present a final annual financial report at the first regularly scheduled Executive Committee meeting following the end of the fiscal year. State and Federal income tax statements shall be prepared by a certified public account and filed by the Treasurer each year with approval of the Executive Committee. After the Annual May Meeting, the Treasurer shall transmit all funds and property to the successor in office.

Sheila has been a member of the NCS for the past two years after transferring to the Bay Area from the East Coast.  Prior to her move, Sheila was an active member of the AIHA Potomac section of the Washington, D.C. area.  Sheila was elected Treasurer-elect of that section and participated in several events promoting the field of industrial hygiene to high school students.

Sheila is a CIH and Managing Scientist at Exponent located in Oakland, CA.  Sheila worked in the Exponent Alexandria, VA, office before transferring to Oakland.  Her experience includes performing industrial hygiene studies to evaluate air quality in occupational and environmental settings and conducting historical and quantitative exposure assessments.  Sheila received her Master’s in Health Sciences from Johns Hopkins and currently teaches at the University of California at Davis Extension Program. 


Theresa Choe
Director - Continuing Education & Marketing

The 3rd Year Director acts as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the following assigned committees: Marketing and Vendor, Symposium, Forum, Job Lists, and Publicity & Liaison with Professional Organizations.

Terri Choe has been an active member of the national and local section of AIHA since 2004. She has chaired the Scholarship and Awards Committee. Terri has over 5 years of experience as an environmental health and safety professional and is currently a Senior Project Manager with Forensic Analytical Consulting Services in Hayward, CA. Terri received her masters degree in industrial hygiene from UCLA and her undergraduate from UC Berkeley. She is a certified industrial hygienist and registered California asbestos consultant. Eric Winter
Director - Public Relations

The 2nd Year Director acts as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the following assigned committees: IH in the Community, Newsletter, Scholarships & Awards, and Developing World Outreach Initiative.

Eric Winter has been a member of the AIHA-NCS since 2008.  He worked at New United Motor Manufacturing Incorporated for 15 years, holding a variety of positions, including, manager of safety and industrial hygiene, manager of plastics injection molding and paint, manager of truck assembly, and manager of car assembly.   Eric is currently working at SRI International as the director of environmental health and safety.  During his career Eric has worked on many varied issues including ergonomics, robot and machine safety, chemical exposure assessments, and electrical safety. Martin Suen
First Year Director

The 1st Year Director acts as a liaison between the Executive Committee and the following assigned committees: Volunteer Coordinator & Member Development and Program Registration Table. The 1st Year Director also provides additional support to the Executive Committee. 

Martin is a Certified Industrial Hygienist providing environmental, health, and safety support to various industry sectors ranging from semiconductor, solar, manufacturing, commercial buildings, and residences, among others. His primary focus is on indoor air quality, but is also experienced in assessing hazards related to chemical, physical, and radiological agents. Martin has performed human health risk assessments and exposure reconstructions associated with consumer product safety. A graduate of the University of California, Davis with a BS in Environmental Toxicology and minor in Nematology, he also earned a MS in Environmental Management at the University of San Francisco, focusing on air and environmental quality related to emerging green issues
